The VIZIO has an HDMI 2.0 port so can do 4K 60Hz but I noticed that Mac OS X (10.10.2) can still only do over it's in-built HDMI port while the same machine, when booted into Windows 8.1 (Bootcamp) can do very easily. So I also bought a VIZIO 50" 4K display ("P502ui-B1E") and a new Macbook Pro 15" Retina Mid 2014 (GeForce 750M) maybe should have ordered the 39" display. I have to move my head quite a bit - like when talking to 2-3 people at a party and you have to move your head to make eye contact. Heavy Duty) iVanky Nylon Braided Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter for MacBook Air/Pro, Microsoft Surface Pro, Projector, Monitor and More - GreyWhile its only been a few days since I received this adapter, Ive been extremely impressed with it so far. On a side note, at the native 4K resolution, everything looks the right size on the screen at 3' away but the panel is a bit too big. MacBook Pro 2012-2013 : Mid 2012 (15-inch,13-inch), Early 2013 (15-inch,13-inch). Sometimes it goes for 5 or more minutes! It's a weird bug and I know that opening the macbook pro lid helps it get quickly out of this weird mode. Sometimes when coming out of sleep, the HDMI panel keeps cycling through a black screen, displays "snow" or digital white noise. This plug-and-play adapter will work straight out of the box however, you'l need to have an HDMI cable on hand. I've tried resetting the PRAM (no luck), and will try resetting the SMC next.Ok, so I got the display and it works just fine - power it up and connect the HDMI cable and it's set to 4K 30Hz (the panel's limit). The Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter lets you connect devices with a mini DisplayPort, such as an Apple MacBook Pro, to a monitor, HDTV, or other HDMI-compatible devices. I've had trouble with the USB ports near the MiniDisplayPort - sometimes, when they're glitching, the video feed from the MDP-to-HDMI cable would get snowy. So I think it's the actual hardware port. I tried connecting my wife's identical MacBook Pro to my external monitor with the same cable, and the external monitor successfully displayed video. I plugged my computer into the TV downstairs via the same MDP-to-HDMI adapter, and still got nothing.

The monitor and computer seem to both know when the cable's connected, but I just can't get the external monitor to display video. I just can't get video to output to an external source. It's been a bit fiddly sometimes, but today the connection seems to have given up the ghost entirely. For months, I've been using a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI adapter with my MacBook Pro (13" Mid-2012) and an external monitor.
